QuickCrypt uses the AES as the encryption algorithm and SHA1 as the hash.

Files deleted with QuickCrypt will be secure erased, following the DoD standard.

Quick start:

At program start, a password box will popup, asking you to enter your password.
This password (encryption key) will be used to encrypt or decrypt your files.
Please use a strong password, containing lowercase/uppercase letters, numbers and symbols.

Please be aware that the password you will enter will NOT be stored anywhere on your PC! If it happen that you forgot your password, there is no way to retrieve it and your encrypted files are inaccessible.

After entering your password, the main screen with the 3 drop zones will be displayed.

To encrypt files (or folder with files), simply drop them from Windows explorer or similar drag and drop compatible application onto the drop zone.
In an error occur, you will get a notification and can display the error log.

Files you drop will not be deleted automatically. To drop files and delete the source files at the same time, please HOLD the shift key when dropping files. The image under the cursor will change from “Copy” to “Move”. This is the same behavior you know from Windows when copying or moving files.

The same action apply when decrypting files, Just drop the encrypted files onto the Decrypt drop zone. Holding the shift key when dropping the files will delete the source files (the encrypted files in this case).

Dropping files or folder onto the Delete drop zone will secure erase all files and folder.
Secure erasing is dome by following the DoD standard.

Locate Files

QuickCrypt inclused a function to locate encrypted files on your hard drives, in case you stored them and forgot where.
It does this with 2 methods:
- Searching by file extension and
- Searching by header inspection

The default QuickCrypt file extension is .qce and should not be changed.

Information about ADS:

A popular method used in Windows Systems is the use of Alternate Data Streams (ADS). A relatively unknown compatibility feature of NTFS, ADS is the ability to fork file data into existing files without affecting their functionality, size, or display to traditional
file browsing utilities like dir or Windows Explorer. Found in all version of NTFS, ADS capabilities where originally conceived to allow for compatibility with the Macintosh Hierarchical File System, HFS; where file information is sometimes forked into separate  resources. Alternate Data Streams have come to be used legitimately by a variety of programs, including native Windows operating system to store file information such as attributes and temporary storage.

Alarmingly, files with an ADS are almost impossible to detect using native file browsing techniques like command line or windows explorer. In our example, the file size of calc.exe will show as the original size of 90k regardless of the size of the ADS anyfile.exe. The only indication that the file was changed is the modification time stamp, which can be relatively innocuous.

Once injected, the ADS can be executed by using traditional commands like type, or start or be scripted inside typical scripting languages like VB or Perl. When launched, the ADS executable will appear to run as the original file – looking undetectable to process viewers like Windows Task Manager. Using this method, it is not only possible to hide a file, but to also hide the execution of an illegitimate process.

Unfortunately, it is virtually impossible to natively protect your system against ADS hidden files if you use NTFS. The use of Alternate Data Streams is not a feature that can be disabled and currently there is no way to limit this capability against files that the user already has access to.

Hidden File Scanner is a tool that scans drives for hidden files that scattered across many directories on your Windows. Hidden File Scanner is portable so no installation is required. You can straight away run the executable file.
On the main window, select the drives that you want scan for hidden files. You can choose to scan all drives if you want to, just click the All Drives link. Before you hit the Scan button, you can specify whether to exclude system files, exclude directories from the search. This way, the search results are more logical to view. After complete scan, a list of hidden files will be displayed in the main window. From there, you can unhide or delete them.
Hidden File Scanner also does a quick scan at start up to detect the appearance of autorun.inf files on all devices including removable medias. If such an autorun.inf file is found, a dialog box will pop up where you can either delete, unhide or inspect the content of the autorun.inf. This tool will automatically rate the autorun.inf files as normal, hidden, suspicious or dangerous file.
